Most Expencive Necklaces In The World

        3. THE “HEART OF THE OCEAN” – $20 MILLION

Upon hearing 'Heart of the Ocean', most people think, straightaway of the 1997 blockbuster, Titanic. The heartshaped blue diamond necklace plays a silent leading role in the film, and ultimately ends up at the bottom of the ocean.

Most of us are familiar with a copy of Kate Winslet wearing the 1997 film “Titanic”, initially produced by Harry Winston.
Winston’s original necklace had a stunning 15-carat blue diamond, which is why it was so expensive, and the replica worn in the movie cost only $10,000.

After the release of the popular film Titanic there has been a request for the reproduction of the Heart of the Ocean. A replica was made with a 171 carat sapphire shaped in a heart surrounded by 103 diamonds set in a platinum necklace. The one of a kind jewellery item was later donated to the Sotheby’s charity auction. Celine Dion was spotted wearing the replica of the diamond at the 1998 Academy Awards ceremony.

This, of course, isn’t the only replica that has been made since the movie was released in 1997. Gloria Stuart, who played the elder version of Rose in Titanic was seen wearing a one of a kind replica that contained a 15 carat real blue diamond at the 1998 Academy Awards.

The Heart of the Ocean in the Titanic film isn't a real piece of jewellery, but is hugely popular.
The jewellery is however based on a real diamond, the 45.52 carat Hope Diamond. The Hope Diamond is one of the world's most valuable diamonds its worth is estimated at around 350 million dollars.

Only, the real Heart of the Ocean wasn't a blue diamond. It wasn't heart-shaped. It wasn't ever owned by Louis XVI. And it wasn't called the Heart of the Ocean, although it's now known as The Love of the Sea.

In 1998, the necklace was donated to an auction to benefit Aid For Aids and was sold to an unknown bidder for $1.4 million. The bidder bought the necklace under the agreement that singer Celine Dion would wear the necklace in the 1998 Academy Awards for two nights. Dion is the only known person to wear the genuine Heart of the Ocean, as the owner never made the necklace seen in the public sphere again.

The necklace symbolizes Rose’s love for Jack and how nothing or no one could stand between the love they had for each other....
